The timing on both announcements is not a co-incidence. Remember, Charlotte is host to the Democrat national convention this year, and Obama is desperate to hold NC.

I suspect some outside influence is at play here regarding both "retirements".

The same thought occurred to me also, Bubba.

But I also wondered whether one or more highly placed state Democrats are also concerned that she will drag down candidates for the state legislature; or whether they are concerned they will lose any opportunity to oppose what the Republicans in the state legislature would do if they lose the gubernatorial veto.

It is pretty clear to me, however, that there is more beneath the surface.

The most simple explanation might be that she knows she would lose, and does not want to proceed because of that. (I suspect, however, there is more than that.)

You need to keep factoring Miller into the picture. Do you really think Brad Miller is going to fade into obscurity in his "retirement"?

I am not sure that I see him as a particularly strong candidate for governor, given the fact that he is a flat campaigner. And given the fact that he is a de facto socialist, which his opponent hopefully would be skilled enough to point out.

I dont know from all of these conspiracy type theories but I am sure more info is to come. Could be interesting... spin and all.

"I am not sure that I see him as a particularly strong candidate for governor, given the fact that he is a flat campaigner."

Given the delusions that "progressives" are known to possess, would that actually stop him from running for a statewide office??

No, not necessarily. I wonder how much of a primary battle there will be. Already, it is being reported (implicitly) that Dalton and Faison will probably run.

Thinking about "delusions", could the Obamanation actually be thinking about Miller or Perdue as the running mate to replace Joe (The Mouth) Biden? They can't be THAT deluded, can they?

Wow. Would never have dreamed of that one.

bubba says: "I suspect some outside influence is at play here regarding both "retirements"".

Gotta think you are right about that one bubba. Watch for Janet Cowell's name to come into play.

Lagging behind 11 points to a candidate that has not even announced yet had to be embarrassing. It was a clear indication of a failure to lead.

By the way Joe, I hope all that visit here will be at the Shriner's Club on High Point Road next Tuesday for Pat McCrory's formal announcement. We need a show of support for the next governor of NC.

Sorry, forgot to mention it's at 5:30 and the Shriner's Club is located at 5010 High Point Road.

I am concerned that fringe groups will have Charlotte turning into 1968 Chicago. The Democratic Party has lost control over their groups and who would want to be associated with a potential disaster in Charlotte.

While I prefer McCrory to Perdue, he is not a conservative by my standards.

"I am concerned that fringe groups will have Charlotte turning into 1968 Chicago"

You're not the only one, Don. I thought the same thing at Spag's, and I've heard others from different sources express that, too.

You can bet that the OWS group is going to be hanging around and causing trouble all the way to November. This group is the foot soldiers for Obama. We could see a 1968 style event in Charlotte, which has to be suppressed. This would be the Van Jones Bottom Up, Top Dwn, Inside Out strategy. Only the group leaders will know that they are fodder for suppression. But, it wil be for show so that Obama can show his cred.

Is it possible this announcement might have been made today by Perdue because some type of indictment might be forthcoming?

Obama wants her out. Feels she'll hurt his chances of winning NC again. Most likely will promise her a plum federal job if he wins. Politics 101.

Harold: "Most likely will promise her a plum Federal job if he wins. Politics 101."

Unless, of course, Dumpling is indicted. Then much like John Edwards' hopes to be "compensated" with the Attorney General post, all the "plum jobs" go out the window.

Politics 201;)

Doc, yeah, having three of your campaign associates get indicted raises questions.

McCrory woulda been a shoe-in if she had stayed in the race.

"Since as early as January 2011, and perhaps before then, Gov. Bev Perdue’s press office has received access to confidential employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics hours if not days before its scheduled release, quite likely in violation of federal law. The governor’s staff used its early access to massage the monthly employment press release that reported jobs data to the public."

It is not beyond the imagination that trading may have occurred as a result of this information and it would not be necessary for Perdue to be directly involved for her already weak campaign to suffer further.

There is now the suggestion being floated out there that Kay Hagan may decide to be a candidate for governor. If so, that is an indication that she knows she is in trouble in a reelection for senator.

Kinda scary, Techster.
