It appears that various parties are quite interested in minimizing the importance of the Prepared Food Tax in the Greensboro City Council elections-- even though Robbie Perkins had discussed and proposed it a couple of times last year, and even though TREBIC mysteriously included it on its candidate questionnaire this campaign season.
Methinks he doth protest too much:
It seems like Mr Perkins is becoming ill, not sure how the event was going for him. The issue is becoming a big one and no one knows anything about it. This is why politics is so crazy, lol.

While the City Council does not have the ultimate authority to impose a meals tax, there is nothing to prevent the Mayor & Council from asking any member of the Guilford legislative delegation to file a local bill to give Greensboro that authority. That is the first step is one that can be prevented if all council members oppose such an unfair tax. Many of us remember that, not so long ago, our local government officials did request and receive authority to hold a referendum on a meals tax to build a new baseball stadium. We do not need or want a replay of that debacle!
In this video Perkins fails to take a position in all his rambling about how a tax is not "proposed". Is he for it or against it - or just doesn't want to talk about it?

Yes, Sal, Robbie is morphing into a rather dark figure.
NoRestaurantTax, I agree. I believe you had pointed out earlier today that Perkins' comments at the forum contrasted mightily with the instance last year at the Grandover when he was talking up the restaurant tax before community leaders. Back then, the restaurant tax was a great option. Now, we swear it has never been on the table.

I am not sure how this little tax is causing such a comotion for robbie. He is a smart man and needs to say yes or no. I dont get it, this issue is a trebic thing and my understanding he is cool with them. If this is the case they are making things worse for him.
WHAT A MESS POLITICS IS

Board of Elections states that we are NOT violating any election laws. Yes! Weekly reports on it: http://yesweeklyblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/board-of-elections-no-restaurant-tax-in.html

Congratulations, NoRestaurantTax. There have been two bogus concerns expressed within a period of a week or so from the left regarding campaign finance-- your situation, and the questions from Commissioner Bruce Davis regarding the C4GC video.

Michele, thanks for passing this along. It appears that Robbie's nose is growing.

From the DigTriad article:
"Perkins said a few months ago, he simply mentioned that other cities use a restaurant tax to fund city projects."
What a hoot!
"Simply mentioned it" usually translates to "We're going to see if we can cram this down the taxpayers' throats AGAIN next year.We need MORE funding."

What Robbie Perkins statements on WFMY prove tonight is that he is absolutely lying! In August 2011, he answered in writing that 1) He'd support a 1% prepared food tax and 2) He'd spend spend it on Tourism and the Coliseum. To say there have been no discussions about a prepared foods tax is completely false! That follows up a presentation he made at Grandover to government officials and industry leaders about the tax!
From WFMY: "Perkins said he wouldn't support a restaurant tax and neither would anyone else. However, since it has never been proposed and has never been discussed, that doesn't matter anyway."
When we prove that he's lying - I assume WFMY will run a second story!

I say let Robbie defend his statements on the lying charge. I will give him the chance to defend himself because we all deserve teh right. Its up to him.

NoRestaurantTax, I agree that Robbie is lying. More about that later.
I hope the media holds him accountable.

The media will only report on what they want.

Unfortunately, I agree, Sal.
