Jorge Cornell is the leader of the Latin Kings gang in our area. He is Councilwoman Trudy Wade's opponent in District 5.
The News and Record reported this morning (unposted):
Cornell didn't appear at last week's district candidate forum. When asked about their differences, Wade had one of the most entertaining answers of the evening.
"Well, I haven't been arrested 18 times and am not a member of any gang," Wade said.
This might seem funny to some. But it would be a very serious matter if he were to get elected somehow; or even if he were to get a significant portion of the vote. And some of us recall Cornell's ties to the Pulpit Forum crowd.
It is very important that District 5 turn out for this year's election. We cannot allow a gang leader to take a seat on the city council.
I will say that not attending a forum this late and so close to the election can hurt you, it could be he was working. I have the idea of being a write in in Dist 5 but I want people to vote how they want. I will not trash talk Dr Wade. I think she, Danny, Rakeshaw, Knight have been working hard through this hard economy to keep the city above water. I will tell you if u want to know why I like Dr Wade, she is a smart lady and asks questions about issues when it come sto spending money, soem just voite but she tends to want to know more detail, I love the way she just has that look to her, lol.
I live in district 5 and people got to come out and vote regardless if they think Dr Wade will win without any problems. They still have a Mayors race and At large race.

I'm gonna go with "No".
Did I get it right?

Sal, that is a great point. The people in district 5 also need to turn out to vote for mayoral and at-large candidates.
But they also really need to make sure that nothing funny happens, and that Cornell does not somehow become a councilman.

What do you mean?

Mick, we don't want any unexpected surprises with regard to large differences in turnout among various groups; and/or, perhaps, Cornell gaining support and benefiting from possible targeted get-out-the-vote efforts.
For instance, when they did those joint press conference(s), the Pulpit Forum really seemed to sympathize with Cornell's point of view. And the Pulpit Forum is probably Greensboro's foremost anti-police, anti-law enforcement advocacy group.

The people of D5 need to come out and vote because there is a very important race for mayor and at large. I can not speak ill of Dr Wade because I dont know her at all. I know she voted on things here and there but that does not make a person on the inside. The people know all about Cornell and Wade and they have to make a choice there or write me in,lol. I am not big on anti-law enforcemnet groups like the Pulpit forum because Pacs should not be hate groups.
I hope D5 does the right thing and come out and if they dont they should not complain.

I think people need to remember in 5 that they still have a voice in two other elections, at large and Mayor. I do not know Cornell all that well so I can not talk bad about him. I do not know Trudy that well either but know where she has voted at. I do not blame her deal with the landfill because it was a nice deal and to be honest I was for it closing but lately I see the need. Dr Wade took a lot of hits along with Knight,Thompson, Rakeshaw and did anyone really understand the landfill. I was somewhat clueless and will admitt it and others do that. The Randolph County Landfill is said to open late 2013, that is if they get permits, and what if the community fights it, delays, delays. I read the plan with Gate City, it was a nice deal put together by the conservatives, I actually let others look at it out of state and they liked it knowing nonthing of the issues, just the numbers. The landfill was closed in 2006, so the majority purchased their homes their when the landfill was open. The landfill was opned in 1940 so anyone about 71 and up knew what was there. The landfill was closed in 2006 so people who brought their homes after 2006 knew it ws there and could open at anytime. The way I see it is that you get what you pay for, everyone has to live near something they do not want. I live near an airport but can say I have no problem with it.
I like to say sorry to the four because it was a great deal

Perhaps some of you would like to show some support for a local establishment that threw Jorge Cornell's thugs out.
