Please, God no.

I don't think Rick Perry can appeal to the independents in the swing states like Ohio and Pennsylvania. He scares people with his religious fundamentalism, his talk of secession and the whole Bush/Texas/swagger thing.

He could easily backfire as the nominee.

Plus there seems to be some pretty compelling evidence that his repuation as a jobs creator is a bit overblown.

As bad as Obama has been (and don't get me wrong, he's been plenty bad. Plenty.)a 180 swing to the far right is not what this country needs right now.

Of course I expect C4GT to back the most extreme republican candidate, be it Perry, Bachman or that babbling idiot Palin.

No candidate is perfect. This is an important election. Back a candidate that can win. This is no time for the Sharron Angles, or the Christy O'donnells of the world.

I actually think this could be a very good ticket.

With the recent economic news over the last month or so, I now think it is possible for a strong conservative to beat Obama. I did not feel that way six months ago.

Romney is much worse. Bachmann has some of the same "liabilities" as Perry that you mention, except she does not have executive experience. (That means she also has less of a record to tear down.) From an ideological standpoint, however, I am quite comfortable with Bachmann.

"This is an important election."

Romney is another McCain. If we make the mistake in two consecutive presidential elections, we will be punished with another Obama term for the collective stupidity some of these commenters are exhibiting.

Pretty obvious the Far Left is scared of this ticket. You know, the party of harmony and social equality, except when it comes to a female Republican. Probably what Lee Harvey means is we need to elect someone who is highly intellectual and well educated like we did in 2008, that really worked out well.

Another term with Obama and it's over, for all of us.
Take a deep breath---
Okay, any candidate who doesn't take Obama head on with his socialistic agenda, inferior policies, abysmal unemployment, unconscionable energy position, belligerent immigration discipline, paralyzing regulations and irresponsible spending is not strong enough to be the next GOP candidate.
Obama and friends are the most blatant example of fiscal and constitutional incompetence.
Perry has been Governor for the past 11 years. He has got to have something going for him, certainly more then any other candidate.
I like Giuliani. I lived in NYC while Rudy cleaned up one of the most corrupt messes in the Country. Yes, even worse then Chicago.
I agree, Romney is another McCain, he’s been out of action a decade.
I like Rudy for Attorney General.
If Perry gets the nod, he will need a bullet proof mouse trap to secure the Hispanic vote.
Perry and Rubio----

"I actually think this could be a very good ticket."

Putting gun grabber Guliani on the ticket insures that those of use who still cling to guns and religion will vote for someone else or not vote at all.

Jim, Rubio would certainly help capture the Hispanic demographic, and could perhaps change the equation at least semi-permanently with that group-- which is showing signs of being unhappy with Obama. He also likely could do a good job in debate and handling the media. He is obviously strong politically. I guess the question is whether his time has come.

Hugh, I had not considered the gun issue with respect to Giuliani. If lots of people have a problem with him over that issue, that is obviously a major liability for him.

Of course, we are assuming Perry will get the nomination, but he has to get there first.:)

I like Perry/Giuliani or Perry/Rubio. I wish I could be more optimistic, but it's going to be quite tricky to put together a ticket that can win in 2012. I predict that the Democrats will replace Obama with Hillary and that she will be the next President.

Good news for the Perry camp. Richard "Kinky" Friedman, the last of the Texas Jewish Cowboys who penned the words to the songs 'They ain't making Jews like Jesus anymore' and 'A......e from El Paso' and 'Six Million Miles' has endorsed Perry for President. Made the statement anybody but Obama and went further to say he'd vote for Charlie Sheen before Obama. The Kinkster's political views are typically leftward with some Libertarian stuff thrown in for good measure. If he's good enough for The Kinkster he's good enough........

The Repubs need that Hispanic vote. Someway, gotta get Rubio or Jeb Bush on the ticket.

Moderates like some women Republicans. From Maine.
