The Rhino has an article that expresses confidence in the premise that Skip Alston's power on the Board of County Commissioners is soon to diminish because of redistricting.
I agree that would be the outcome if the Republican plan passed by the state legislature holds. But it ain't over 'til it's over. Let's recall the Obama Justice Department has a role to play, and it will do whatever it is inclined to do.
Rhino:
Alston said he thinks the Department of Justice is certain to object to this new plan on the grounds of fairness and, he said, he plans to keep fighting.
How is he going to fight? Is he going to use county staff? Is he going to use the resources of the county attorney's office?
Alston feels it would be very bad for Guilford County if it does not have a lopsided Democratic majority in control. But I think it would be profoundly wrong and unethical for him to use county staff, paid for by taxpayers, to try to maintain his partisan advantage. Let's hope that is not happening. But the local media needs to shine a blinding spotlight if it is.
Fairness = Progressive Social Justice
