A couple of readers enrich the dialogue regarding the federal stimulus money that will give us "high speed rail" in North Carolina.
GH advises that the $461 million project will reduce the travel time from Charlotte to Raleigh by a grand total of 13 minutes.
And my friend Fred Gregory demonstrates his esteem for trains by passing along some photos of the scenic Durango-Silverton railroad in Colorado. I do not know which will be faster-- Obama's North Carolina rail renovations, now the object of some celebration locally, or the scenic line on which Fred is depicted:

Joe,
Last night I posted GH's link to WBTV's on line poll question, over at Cone. 90% plus responding at that time, had voted that the $461 million was not worth the 13 minute decrease in rail travel time between Charlotte and Raleigh.
I voted ! So should you all.

As the daughter of a devoted ferroequinologist - and much as I love a good train ride - as the state-of-our-state currently stands, I am not seeing sinking that kind of money into this project.

That is ridiculous and when it goes over budget we are left holding the bill. I no I will never get on one.
