Way back in March, in the midst of passage of health care reform, we had a series of posts regarding Senator Kay Hagan's liberal church here in Greensboro and the broader topic of progressive Christianity.
I learned something this past week of which I had been completely unaware. Apparently, the tradition of progressive Christianity was partially responsible for our entrance into World War I. The author writing about this topic refers to a church posture of "messianic interventionism".
The liberal mainline Protestant church is a political tradition that has wielded considerable power over the last century, and that has not hesitated to mix church and state.
