Last month, President Barack Obama gave his address to Congress, and accused his political opponents of lying about several aspects of health care reform-- including the charge that it would facilitate or permit insurance coverage of abortion under the law. Obama tried to make it appear that was an outlandish possibility.
But in fact, it continues to be an issue. The Senate Finance Committee, chaired by Max Baucus, recently voted down a motion to prevent such coverage. Even the liberal Associated Press disagrees with Obama's assertions on this matter.
Abortion is a horrible procedure that takes human life; and a majority of Americans now oppose it in the vast majority of the circumstances in which it is now performed.
No premium payer or taxpayer should be forced to have their hard-earned dollars subsidize abortion. But the national Democrats obviously feel otherwise.
