Health care reform continues to be discussed and voted upon in various congressional committees. The national Democrats seem insistent that any new insurance plans developed under health care reform will pay for abortion, even if it means using taxpayer dollars.
Discussion can be found here and here regarding developments in the Senate.
In addition, the Family Research Council reported the following regarding action in the House:
In the Ways and Means Committee, Reps. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Sam Johnson (R-Texas) offered life-related amendments to the Democrats' massive health care bill. Rep. Johnson's would have explicitly excluded abortion from the minimum benefits and mandates provided for in the bill, and Rep. Cantor's would have prevented taxpayers from being forced to subsidize abortions. Both amendments failed, further solidifying the Democrats' health care overhaul as one big abortion industry bailout.
If there is anything that can sink Obama's drive for his health care plan, it is the Dem's insistence that abortion be included that will do it. This is certainly a wedge issue for most everyone.

Stormy, it would be really interesting if this turned out to be the issue that sinks the whole ship. But it is an indicator of the Democrats' extremism on the issue of abortion that they are insisting it can be part of the package.
