Matthew Bales discusses Senator Kay Hagan's support of Obama Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor.
He points out that a recent poll suggests North Carolinians oppose this nomination; so Hagan's support of Sotomayor is not consistent with the desires of the state's citizens.
Bales further reminds us that Hagan made a campaign pledge in favor of gun rights. He points out, however, that Sotomayor's jurisprudence has not always supported second amendment rights.
"He points out that a recent poll suggests North Carolinians oppose this nomination"
Since you did not say "a majority of North Carolinians oppose this nomination," you are accurate.

I don't know Judge Sotomayors total bench history but the bits and pieces I am hearing suggests to me she is certainly biased, not racist, biased. Maybe Hussan" will make her a "Czar" of the courts, he has a "Czar" for most everything else. I was taught in Civics that the American governmet is made up of three distinct bodies with a system of "checks and balances" built into them by the framers. This "Czar" thing circumvents the checks and balances as they all report directly to Hussan, all under the nose, and without a peep, from Congress. This power grab really concerns me, will he bring the military and law enforcement in under his umbrella, if so we are in deep trouble, history will repeat its self and America will look like Germany 1935. Speaking of Europe, I'm hearing European countries are moving to the "right" whereas America is rapidly turning to the "left" does this mean that the experiment in Europe is over and they are finding a conservative form of government is the best way to go. She does, indeed, have political biases and a certain worldview, Beau. My concern is how that will impact her jurisprudence. I think Matthew Bales is correct to raise some concerns about Kay Hagan's intentions.

Was there ever any question that she would toe the Dem party line? She is not beholden to the people and values of NC. Her loyalty resides at the party level not with the lemmings who voted for her.

Delow, I agree that party loyalty is part of what is going on here. I think she likely also perceives Sotomayor will protect certain liberal precedents-- especially Roe. Remember that Hagan is fervently pro-abortion.

The poll cited is completely useless, at least when used to make generalizations about the state's electorate and how they feel about Sotomayor.
Not only are the figures cited within the margin of error, there's an additional 18% who responded as being unsure. A 22% swing in either direction is not what I would call rock solid.

How badly did you injure yourself grasping for straws?
