Say what you want about Alston, he is to be commended for making these tough choices. There is way too much fat in government and in government spending and doing a little trimming in lean times seems prudent to me.

Has nothing to do with trimming. It is an old fashioned house cleaning disguised by recession.

There may be some measure of both, and I continue to have reservations regarding what has happened on the Board of County Commissioners. I am glad that some of the efforts, however, may shield us from a tax increase at the county level.

The media culture, nonetheless,is not going gently into that good night when government is being downsized. That is simply regarded as impermissible in mainstream media circles. The approach is to muster up outrage so efforts at austerity can be shut down.

No big deal.

When will the Downsizers address the bureaucracy and largess of the school system?

Now THAT will be a battle for the ages.......

Bubba, unfortunately you are right. That will be a tough nut to crack. There is some discussion brewing, but it will be interesting to see the outcome.
