Say what you want about Alston, he is to be commended for making these tough choices. There is way too much fat in government and in government spending and doing a little trimming in lean times seems prudent to me.
There may be some measure of both, and I continue to have reservations regarding what has happened on the Board of County Commissioners. I am glad that some of the efforts, however, may shield us from a tax increase at the county level.
The media culture, nonetheless,is not going gently into that good night when government is being downsized. That is simply regarded as impermissible in mainstream media circles. The approach is to muster up outrage so efforts at austerity can be shut down.
