A probation officer is assigned to monitor a certain drug dealer. The officer had reason to suspect he was dealing, and searched his car. The drug dealer cried "harassment", and the probation officer was reprimanded by his superior.
Greensboro residents, does this story line seem vaguely familiar?
In any event, this story, initially published in the News and Observer, prompted Carter Wrenn to make a suggestion to Republican state legislators: hold a public hearing, and call in the probation officer and his two supervisors to talk. He also suggested demanding a weekly update from the governor on the state's 15,000 lost parolees.
Sounds like a plan to me.
