The News and Record today endorsed Don Vaughan in the race for the NC Senate seat vacated by Kay Hagan. It was somewhat of a backhanded endorsement, because it went out of its way to point out some of Vaughan's shortcomings.
Joe Wilson, Vaughan's opponent, posts about the situation today. He quotes directly from an editorial three years ago in which the News and Record refrained from endorsing Vaughan in the Greensboro City Council at-large race.
Apparently, Vaughan did not merit re-election to the City Council three years ago. But this year, we are to believe he somehow deserves to be elected to the NC Senate-- arguably a higher office.
Go figure.

The News-Record editorial staff doesn't have to have a reason for their endorsements or anything they do or write. They are the News-Record. Take 'em or leave 'em. Of course, if someone actually does put the money down, the staff will be looking for a real job.

Fred, they all already have blogs, so they'll just become full-time bloggers for a living.

So they admit he is weak, but he'd be a good pick because he'll be a lackey for the Democratic leadership in the legislature? Uh, OK. Sounds like a back door endorsement of Joe.

It's just the latest example of poor judgment on the part of the N&R and its employees.
The list of things that establish the veracity of my statement keeps growing daily.
We're never surprised anymore when a new occurrence of bad judgment by editorial/news decision makers, and by news staff members becomes evident.

Joe Wilson is a hard working, earnest individual who can do a first rate job in the NC State Senate. For me he stands above Don Vaughan, who is tainted by the Project Homestead debacle several years ago .

I agree, Bill. Joe is a good man. We can do better than Vaughan in the Senate.
