Ben Holder has yet another amazing post that reveals a letter sent by Walter Jones to several other attorneys including Linda Miles. Walter Jones at that time was representing some of the aggrieved black police officers, including Julius Fulmore, against the City of Greensboro.
The letter, dated May 12, 2006, has several passages that literally jump off the page. Check it out:
"Perhaps Mr. Johnson should have advised the council and the media as to the role Officer Fulmore and I played in the investigation of Chief Wray. For instance they might want to know about the covert meeting between myself, Linda Miles and Joe Williams in the basement of the city building. This is the one where Ms. Miles insisted that we all come and go in separate directions and stagger our times so as not to arouse suspicion. Officer Fulmore's 'claims' were patently clear at that time and well before Risk Management Associates was ever heard..."
"During my involvement with Ms. Miles in this matter it always struck me that the plight of the black officers was a means of pursuing a personal grudge against David Wray and not of genuine concern."
Huh?
Of course, as noted here many times before, Mr. Williams has been a principal in the Simkins PAC. Walter Jones now works in the Guilford County District Attorney's office, which is affiliated with the Simkins machine. Overall, does this letter inspire confidence in that office?
And more:
"Ms. Miles... seemed more interested in any 'dirt' (her word) that I might have on the United States Attorney's office, Attorneys Ken Keller and Locke Clifford, as well as Judge Stewart Albright."
Interesting. Toward what end?
Ben Holder proceeds to post the results of a lie detector test administered by the Winston-Salem police department on Mr. Fulmore. Fulmore apparently did not pass.
And a bonus question: overall, does Ben's post, and the letter contained therein, inspire additional confidence in the city of Greensboro's handling of the GPD matter thus far?

This is why the City Council will settle and N-E-V-E-R let these cases see the light of day in a courtroom.
Can you imagine the tons of these files that would be brought out in the open if it went to court, putting the city at risk for untold millions more, and ruining what very little reputation our city government still has?
It's a shame the citizens will never know the REAL story.

Stone, I suspect you may be right.
And of course, this places at least some of the aggrieved officers in an excellent negotiating position. They can make extraordinary demands, and feel some degree of certainty that the city will have to acquiesce. And precisely because of the reason you cite.
