Brad Miller's Ideological Company
I have recently posted regarding Brad Miller's voting record as described in the scorecards compiled by the liberal Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) and also the American Conservative Union (ACU). I had previously related on this blog that Miller had scored as far to the left side of the ideological spectrum as it is possible to measure based on his 2005 voting record. In addition, he placed to the left of Bernard Sanders of Vermont, an avowed socialist.
I also found that his 2005 voting record is to the left of such luminaries as Cynthia McKinney, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, John Kerry, Christopher Dodd and Barbara Mikulski.
Unfortunately, when I compiled that list, I inadvertently left out one important figure. Miller also scored to the left of Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts.
However, it is also important to identify the precise ideological company he keeps-- i.e., those individuals in Congress who scored 100% on the ADA scale and 0% on the ACU scale. These include Jerome Nadler and Charlie Rangel of New York; Jim McDermott of Washington; Martin Meehan of Massachusetts; and Pat Leahy of Vermont.
This is what we have representing various parts of the eastern Piedmont, including parts of Guilford, Rockingham, Alamance and Caswell counties. Someone to the left of Ted Kennedy.
My vote would be for Vernon Robinson in the upcoming election.
Addendum: Another House Democrat who had precisely the same voting record as Brad Miller-- Barney Frank of Massachusetts.
